Paddy Nhlapo has worked across a range of portfolios within Community Development, Social Mobilization, Community Intervention Strategies Development and Projects Conceptualization. He has been involved with Concept Development writing through to campaigns and projects implementation in Human Rights focused on LGBTIQA+ activism, Community Socio-Economic Development, HIV and AIDS and Health Communications and Dialogues Programmes Management in South Africa and Southern Africa.
Major programmes include managing Lesbian and Gay Youth Programme for SADC which culminated in a 15 Day youth camp, coordinated by NCGLE (National Coalition for Lesbian and Gay Equality) and funded by HIVOS, developing and managing the Volunteer Programme of POWA (People Opposing Women Abuse) – funded by Interfund, SA-Norway Youth Exchange on HIV and AIDS, which resulted in fundraising of $ 75 million, through ‘Operation Day’s Work’ (ODW) or ‘Operasjon Dagsverk’ (OD).
Paddy has been involved in various major projects ranging from National Health’s Communications Programme of the Department of Health, managing the National Youth Multimedia and Communications Campaign “Khethimpilo” with a budget of R 7 million and the Choice Youth Television Programme with a budget of over R 12 million over two years. Paddy has worked as a Researcher and Television presenter – he was the first “Siyayinqoba Beat It” anchor between 19998 and 2000, as a person openly living with HIV. Paddy has planned and managed the Khomanani “Pledge-a-Thon Programme Community Outreach, reaching over 90 Communities and 300 000 individuals across RSA, making their pledges on HIV and AIDS. This included other interventions such as the National Sex-Worker Outreach, DJ Clubs Events Nationally.
